Children in the kindergarten number 13 in Gorzow Wielkopolski draw by lots the bib numbers for the riders who take part in the XVIII Memorial of Edward Jancarz.
Martin Vaculik has number eleven. To remind you the tournment is taking place 30th of March in Gorzow. The first race is planned to start at 2.00 p.m.
The Memorial is dedicated to memory of the tragically deceased rider of Stal Gorzow. The competition is organized by Stal Gorzow Wielkopolski on and off . The first time when the riders rivalized in this competition was in 1992.
Edward Jancarz was born 20th of August 1946 in Gorzow Wielkopolski. He died tragically in the city where he was born 11th of January 1992. The alumnus of Stal was repeatedly a representative of Poland in many competitions. He was a World Team Cup champion. After he stopped to compete he was also a coach. Whole his career he represented his native club.
Internationally he took part ten times in the finals of Individual Speedway World Championship (in the years 1968-1969, 1973-1977, 1981-1982). His greatest individual success was in 1986 in Göteborg. Debuting in the world final Jancarz gained eleven points in five starts and after victory in additional run he reached his only brown medal in his career in thiese competitions.
Unfortunately after finishing his career as a rider he started to abuse alkohol. During a quarrel at home he was mortally stabbed with a knife by his second wife. He died 11th of January 1992. For many fans of Stal he is still considered to be the beatemest rider in the history of the sport club. He was the first speedway rider in the world who has been built a monument. The celebratory exposure of the monument was in December 2005.
