The SGP Commission confirmed that the top seven riders of FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship in 2025 will be guaranteed spots in the 2026 SGP series.
As part of the changes before the new season, which starts 3rd of May with Grand Prix of Germany in Landshut, number of players qualified to SGP grows from six to seven.
As a result SGP Commission, common commission of the world motorcycle racing governing body, Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the global promoter of FIM Speedway, Worner Bros. Discovery Sports is chosing only three ‘wild cards’ – instead of four, as it was till now – to complete the line-ups for 2026 season.
The winner of Speedway European Championship and four best riders of FIM SGP Challenge in Holsted in Denmark 9th of August also take part in the cycle 2026.
The SGP Commission has agreed to grant an additional automatic qualifying spot, ensuring that 12 of the 15 places in the line-up can now be earned on the track.
“In my opinion it is a good idea. It’s better if seven riders remain in the SGP cycle for the next season. I think that thanks to this not only the rivalry for medals in 2025 will be interesting, but also the one for top seven contendors” – said Martin Vaculik.
